The beautiful season of the year, which is summer, is a wonderful time for most people associated with holidays. For farmers, this is harvest time, which means long hours spent in the tractor in the field. This poses a certain threat not only to the farmer, but also to the machine. In the previous article, we wrote about the effects of human overheating, now it’s time to raise this ailment in the context of the LS tractor. We know that these are not frequent cases, but as Hippocrates said “Prevention is better than cure”.
Summer is the time when LS tractors are particularly exploited. Intensive work performed during sunny, hot weather is not conducive to the proper operation of the cooling system, which makes our machine vulnerable to overheating. It is true that its capacity is precisely calculated by the manufacturer, but in laboratory conditions. In everyday life, various situations may occur that verify these calculations. So it is worth knowing how to act so that the LS tractor does not overheat.
When positive temperatures outside achieve amazing results, the basic thing is proper irrigation – this is the rule our parents instilled in us from a young age. So, since people need to drink for their bodies to function well, it should not surprise us in the context of the LS tractor. Taking care of the cooling system is a priority on hot days. It is important that the fluid is of good quality, because the new LS tractors are not flooded with water. It has cooling properties and prevents corrosion inside the engine.
Radiator fluid is not expensive, and it can save us the trouble of repairing the machine. It is available in ready form or as an extract. Just mix it with demineralized water. Any deviations in this matter may result in a serious failure.
So, before intensive work, let’s do a thorough review of the cooling system in our LS tractor. Let’s also look at the radiator hoses, which are made of rubber. They can simply be damaged and need to be replaced with new ones.
One of the most important elements of each tractor is the radiator, which is responsible for the proper heat exchange in the engine cooling system. Its capacity depends on the model of the LS tractor. The cooling system consists of a small and a large circuit, which should be kept in mind when inspecting the machine.
The engine must reach its optimum temperature to work properly. So at the beginning it works at low speed, ending at the thermostat. Then the coolant circulation is closed and our engine reaches the optimum temperature, which varies between 70°C and 85°C. The thermostat then opens and the coolant is fully circulated.
The thermostat is a delicate device that must not be forgotten when inspecting the machine. It is made of aluminum, so all impacts and the passage of time are not kind to it. It is not expensive, so it is worth replacing it regularly to make sure that the entire cooling system works flawlessly.
